Great to meet you. My name is Gertrude Nwachukwu Board certified PMHNP-BC Silver Spring MD. I treat Depression, Anxiety, Schizophrenia, Alcohol and Substance use disorders, Disorders of adolescents, and adults. Depression and Anxiety presents a major threat to human emotion though, seen as a normal reaction to stress, dysfunctional coping, fear, restlessness, worry, sadness, insomnia, poor appetite and anhedonia are some of the symptoms. My goal is to recognize, treat and improve coping activities to control the symptoms of anxiety, depression and other mental / behavioral conditions listed.
My approach is a Holistic Evidence-Based care that positions you for all round support. I collaborate and refer as needed. With solid diverse service experience, comprehensive health history and mental health assessment, IT, diagnostic tools and scientific body of knowledge a specific diagnosis is reached. The Client’s short and long term goal can be identified and drawn in a care plan with the client. I work with you in choosing the most effective Medication Regimen and Psychotherapy that meets your needs. I am here to help.

We serve patients aged 10 and older, providing mental and behavioral health care for individuals across the lifespan. Our team is led by Gertrude Nwachukwu, PMHNP-BC (Founder), a board-certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. Gertrude holds an MSN in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing from Walden University and a BSN from Trinity Washington University. She also trained as a Nurse/Midwife at University College Hospital in Ibadan and the School of Midwifery at Sacred Heart Hospital in Abeokuta.
With over 24 years of experience in nursing, Gertrude has gained a wealth of expertise in a variety of settings, including:
- 9 years in Medical/Surgical nursing
- 5 years as an acute mental health nurse at the Psychiatric Institute of Washington, DC, where she worked closely with adolescents facing various mental and behavioral health challenges, from admission to discharge
- 3 years in critical care at Medlink Hospital in Washington, DC
- 3 years in Cardiac Telemetry at Washington Hospital Center
- 5 years in acute and subacute care nursing, including roles in nursing homes as a clinician and supervisor
- Experience in home health care, both as a supervisor and care coordinator
- International experience as a Nurse/Midwife
